National Geographic: Guns, Germs, and Steel - Part 1: Out Of Eden

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jared Diamond is one of my favorite evolutionary biologists and most important researchers of our time. In his popular book Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies he has claimed that spreading of indigenous grain species all over world is the reason of imbalance between modern civilizations today.

How was possible that only 168 Spanish soldiers were able to kill 80000 men of great Incan Emperor Atahualpa's army and capture him?

Why was the New World conquered so easily?

Why did the world ever become so unequal?

So this 3 part documentary focuses on these controversial ideas. The first episode is dealing with the origins of agriculture and spreading of the domestical plants and animals from South West Asia (better to say the Fertile Crescent).

National Geographic - Diagnosing Darwin

Charles Darwin, one of the greatest scientists in history. His book The Origin Of Species (heretical to his age, maybe even today for some) and theory of evolution changed the world completely. But there is a mystery surrounds the death of the father of theory of evolution. Darwin's life was plagued by his chronic disease which possibly he acquired during the voyage of the Beagle. The mystery behind his illness puzzled the doctors for years. Using the power of modern forensic science this enigma may be finally unraveled.

Sam Harris on Sarah Palin and Elitisim - When Atheists Attack

The author of The End of Faith, Sam Harris tells his opinions on Creationist Sarah Palin in NEWSWEEK magazine.

"Teen pregnancy is a misfortune, plain and simple. At best, it represents bad luck (both for the mother and for the child); at worst, as in the Palins' case, it is a symptom of religious dogmatism. Governor Palin opposes sex education in schools on religious grounds. She has also fought vigorously for a "parental consent law" in the state of Alaska, seeking full parental dominion over the reproductive decisions of minors. We know, therefore, that Palin believes that she should be the one to decide whether her daughter carries her baby to term. Based on her stated position, we know that she would deny her daughter an abortion even if she had been raped. One can be forgiven for doubting whether Bristol Palin had all the advantages of 21st-century family planning—or, indeed, of the 21st century." [read more]

Imagine - John Lennon

Director Sam Taylor-Wood's new movie, Nowhere Boy about John Lennon's life will start shooting on March. I think this is a good time to call John Lennon and his beautiful works to mind and for a start I can not think a better choice than Imagine. Imagine, most popular song and also same named album of John Lennon released in 1971. Lennon dreams a better world without religions in his song.

Lyrics of Imagine song:
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

The Problem of the Real Existence of God Seen with the Eyes of a Physicist - Bahr Alfred

A mind opener article about what is the logic problem behind the idea that a creator who is born from nothingness. This is the reason of why God is not real.

"In all large religions God is thought of as being the creator of men and the world, that is, the creator of the universe. And God existed already before space, time and matter was created. God was therefore capable to reside and govern in an absolute “nothingness” according to the theologians. Great thinkers of all times have attacked and criticized this God - idea with philosophical arguments. Despite of that the God - idea is still alive, respectively is being kept alive with questionable arguments and means. In what follows this idea of a Creator - God is analyzed and scrutinized with the logic of a physicist.

The belief in a Creator - God stands and falls with the “nothingness”. If it can be proved that in nothingness nothing, absolutely nothing can exist, then the God - idea is finished."

Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979)

Monty
Python's Life of Brian is not blasphemous and doesn't claim there is no God, however it can be appreciated as a parody of Christianity and religions. Of course it is a Monty Python and has one of the funniest opening scene in the whole universe! Also there are still some Christians who don't like that movie. :)

A hilarious scene from the movie:
