I read this book as a teenager and it was extremely formative in driving my curiousity about the world. Sagan's writing is clear consise and totally understandable for anyone without any grounding in science above high school level.

Sagan has an almost quasi-religious passion for science and humaninty and this comes through very strongly in his musings in this book. He has a tendancy to romaticise a little but don't let that put you off. I'd highly recommend this book, especially for teens.

I recently bought the book again to re-read and whilst some of the science has dated a little, there is more than enough here to fascinate anyone who wants a grounding in the evolution of human intelligence.
